Breaking the Administrative State - Ned Ryun

Administrative State
I used to walk so carelessly,
'til one day I met Bureaucracy.
He did not appear suddenly,
he'd been there quite some time.
His build, the strangest I have seen.
His body huge, indeed obscene.
His legs buckled at the knees.
He could barely move along.
Despite his weight, his arms were strong.
His grasp was firm, his reach quite long.
He gathered folks from all around
and "lent" them each a hand.
Though his demeanor seemed quite grand,
his personality was very bland.
His mind unable to understand,
and neither could he care.
He seemed a most intriguing gent,
although in time some did resent
his stringent rules, which never bent.
His views were black and white.
The crowd allowed him to decide,
and to protect and to provide.
Each one hoped he was the guide
to find prosperity.
I watched as folks from all around
rejoiced in what they thought they'd found.
"Worth his weight in gold, pound for pound!",
I heard somebody say.
Those who wished to celebrate
required a certificate.
Their lives he meant to regulate.
He took complete control.
All those inclined to realize
were silenced by his beastly size.
Others declined to criticize,
fearing his response.
Most everyone who got the chance
joined in his lethargic dance.
While caught up in his circumstance,
he swallowed each one whole.
If a moral, you might need,
like "Walk alone and remain free"
or "Don't trust in bureaucracy",
well, that is up to you.
